In 2008, Hsieh was the chairman of the DDP (Democratic Progressive Party) and their candidate in the presidential election. After being defeated by Kuomintang (KMT) candidate Ma Ying-jeou, thus ending almost a decade of DDP-rule, Hsieh resigned as chairman and is now involved in regional politics. In the book and throughout his presidential campaign Hsieh called for a more liberal and dynamic economic relationship with the PRC.
While this is a political blog that follows trends and developments in the Republic of China (ROC), it does not take sides. I just felt the title was appropriate to cover topics relating to Taiwan. Today, there are others on the forefront of political life, many issues are important, while the relationship with the PRC is still the one thing that concerns us most. There are other bloggers who know much more than I do, maybe they even write better. I’ll let you decide:
